Wipro aligns efforts on aerospace target

Indian outsourcing company Wipro Ltd. is attempting to fly a handful of design efforts and partnerships into formation to make an assault on the rapidly growing aerospace market in India and around the region.

An executive from the company estimates the combined military and civilian aerospace market in India has grown 50 percent over the last four years. It now represents about 15 percent of the $110 billion and rising sector in Asia, driven in part by growth in a number of national airlines serving a rising middle class. Japan accounts for about 26 percent of the Asian aerospace market, followed by China and India.

Wipro has so far identified four opportunities as part of an ongoing study the company is conducting. They include network-centric command and control systems, simulators, precision engineering and flight control systems.

Shaw Awarded Contract by the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment

The Shaw Group Inc. announced today that its Environmental & Infrastructure Group has been awarded a 4PAE08 Worldwide Planning Program and Design contract for architectural and engineering (A-E) services by the U.S. Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEE). Shaw is one of multiple contractors awarded a five-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity 4PAE08 contract.

Under its contract, Shaw may be issued task orders to provide A-E services in worldwide support of environmental and traditional programs for the Air Force and other Department of Defense agencies. The scope of A-E services to be performed may include environmental restoration, conservation, planning, compliance and pollution prevention, as well as support for military construction and facility sustainment, restoration and modernization programs. The value of Shaw's contract, which was included in the company's previously announced backlog, was undisclosed. The total dollar value established for this program for all contractors approximates $3 billion.

Teledyne Awarded $7.5M to Support NASA Test Laboratory

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY) announced today that its subsidiary, Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc., in Huntsville, Ala., has been awarded a $7.5 million task order to provide engineering services to the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Test Laboratory through September 19, 2010.

The Laboratory will be testing elements of the Ares launch vehicle. Teledyne Brown will be providing MSFC with engineering support, expert assessment and recommendations in several areas including the pressure systems certification. Teledyne Brown will also provide test conductors, engineers, modification, activation and operation of mechanical and electrical systems at Laboratory facilities and facility configuration control and change management documentation processes.

Global Aviation Services (GAS) Signs Up for Abu Dhabi Airport

Global Aviation Services (GAS) yesterday signed up to become the first company of its kind to take space at Abu Dhabi International Airport for provision of MRO supplementary services, refurbishment and engineering services. The new facility for production of cabin interiors, equipment as well as related maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services is to open shortly.

INCAT, a global leader in engineering services outsourcing (ESO) and product development IT services and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Asia's premier aero structures manufacturer today announced a joint venture creating INCAT-HAL Aerostructures Limited. The new organization is immediately positioned to establish itself as a global leader in the engineering and design of aero structures.

The objective of this joint venture is to undertake work packages related to engineering design services in aerostructures and also the captive offshore and on-site work load of both partners from aerospace OEMs, including offset programs.
